Professor Manzini will briefly introduce the basic concept of design for social innovation (including difference and relation with technological innovation and social design), examples and required capability of design for social innovations. Following the short lecture, students are expected to raise questions about the idea of design for social innovation, introduce and discuss relevant cases in the context of Japan and other parts of the world.

About Prof.Ezio Manzini:
Ezio Manzini is an Italian design academic and author known for his work on design for social innovation and sustainability. He is Honorary Professor at Politecnico di Milano, Chair Professor at University of the Arts London, and presently Distinguished Professor on Design for Social Innovation at ELISAVA, and guest professor at Tongji University and Jiangnan University. Manzini is the founder of DESIS, an international network on design for social innovation and sustainability.

エツィオ・マンズィーニ教授について:
エツィオ・マンズィーニ（Ezio Manzini）氏は、イタリアのデザイン研究者。ソーシャルイノベーションとサステナビリティのためのデザインにおけるリーダー的存在であり、現在、ミラノ工科大学の名誉教授。同済大学（上海）および江南大学（無錫）においても客員教授。また国際的なネットワークであるDESIS（Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability）の創設者でもある。
マンズィーニ氏は、エリサバデザインスクールアンドエンジニアリング（バルセロナ）やロンドン芸術大学（ロンドン）など、世界中の大学で教鞭を執ってきた。代表作は、「日々の政治: ソーシャルイノベーションをもたらすデザイン文化」、「Design, When Everyone Designs」、そして最新著書である「Livable Proximity: Ideas for the City That Cares」など。
マンズィーニ氏はサービスデザインの普及にも貢献し、90年代にはミラノ工科大学でサービスデザインの修士プログラムを立ち上げ。彼の最大の貢献は、参加型デザインとソーシャルイノベーションの交点として「ソーシャルイノベーションのためのデザイン」（DfSI）を確立したこと。彼の主張する要点は、誰もがデザイナーであり、自分自身の暮らしたい社会をデザインする能力を持っているということである。この考え方は、世界中のデザイン教育に大きな影響を与え、新たなデザインの進路を示す教科書として広く受け入れられている。
