[Report] October 21: STIG Alumni x Students Reunion & Ph.D. presentations

[Report] On Saturday, October 21, 2023, in conjunction with the University of Tokyo’s Homecoming Day, the STIG Alumni Association and Ph.D. Student Research Presentation were held in person at the seminar room of the International Academic Research Building. Participants included 5 alumni (OB/OG), 9 current students, and 6 faculty and staff.
As the acting representative of the program, Professor Sotaro Shibayama gave the opening remarks, followed by Associate Professor Makiko Matsuo’s status report on both the research and educational aspects of the STIG program. Participants then briefly introduced themselves, which led to a networking session between the alumni and current students. During the session, the participants were mainly divided into Japanese and English-speaking groups, and the groups changed occasionally. The atmosphere was lively and jovial, with everyone actively networking.
After an hour of networking, a poster session was conducted by three current STIG Ph. D. students. The session, characterized by diverse questions and answers from different backgrounds, epitomized the interdisciplinary and international nature of STIG.
Even after the event ended, many participants stayed to continue their conversations. It can be said that this event was a valuable opportunity to strengthen the STIG network.
