[Closed] Research Assistant Position (Study on the domestic framework for university-led space technology development and utilization capacity building in emerging countries in the post/with-corona era and its development potential)

Research Assistant System at The University of Tokyo aims to promote effective research activities, to create an enabling research environment and to develop young researchers’ capabilities by making doctoral students with superior academic abilities and performance engaged in various research and research-related activities.

For the purpose above, STIG, one of the research project of Graduate School of Public Policy gives its doctoral students and those of other Graduate Schools of the University of Tokyo with superior academic abilities and performance an opportunity to be engaged as Research Assistant (RA).

STIG conducts research about on various space policy issues such as space technology development and education capacity building, and space security, safety and sustainability.
STIG in GraSPP invites doctoral students enrolled in GraSPP and other Graduate Schools of the University of Tokyo to apply for Research Assistant positions as follows.

Eligibility
Full-time doctoral students enrolled in The University of Tokyo

Term of appointment
Two months (February – March 2022)

Responsibilities
RA is required to contribute to the successful implementation of the project titled “Study on the domestic framework for university-led space technology development and utilization capacity building in emerging countries in the post/with-corona era and its development potential” by all levels of work in collaboration with research members and staff in charge. This project is the continuation of a project conducted during FY2019-2020, which results were published in a STIG Space Policy Report (https://stig.pp.u-tokyo.ac.jp/?p=4061) that candidates are encouraged to check. Expected tasks includes but not limited to:

1. Extend the analysis conducted during the first phase of the project (FY2019-2020) by investigating space technology development and utilization (STDU) capacity building programs in Africa, Middle East and South America.
2. Gather best practices on Japanese university-led capacity building from other fields such as global health and sanitation.
3. Evaluate the impact of STDU capacity building in emerging space nations on the export of Japanese space technologies.
4. Evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on existing STDU capacity building programs.
5. Develop ideas for schemes for the improvement of university-led Japanese STDU capacity building efforts.
6. Supporting the organization of online interviews and workshops and the publication of recordings on STIG’s website and YouTube channel
7. Contribute to writing the project’s final reports

Remuneration
200,000 yen / month
Paid in accordance with the rules and regulations set by GraSPP.
Please note that the amount of withholding tax will be deducted from each payment.
＊Note: Doctoral students who have JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientist, MEXT scholarship, or benefit-type scholarship will be carefully adopted in consideration with the appropriateness of the work and research purpose as well as his/her academic expertise, etc.

Prior to submission, please obtain your main supervisor’s approval.
