To have a clear understanding of the idea of “risk” and related concepts.
To have a sense of developing “risk regulations” in various fields in an evidence-based way.
To have knowledge of the utility of, and the way to conduct “Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA)”.
To have a capability of analyzing “real risk issues” in a consistent way for preparing better regulatory policies.
[Contents of each class]
Each class will consist of the following three components:
A) Risk concepts: an important concept will be introduced in each class based on related classic paper(s) on risk.
B) Real world risk regulations: various topics will be covered from the viewpoint of how risks are assessed and managed in Japan, such as chemical substances, foods, crimes, natural disasters, traffic accedents, emerging technologies.
C) Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA): One RIA document covering related topics above will be introduced in each class (They are published in the US, UK, EU, Australia, or Japan).
